Loving God - Loving Music

Welcome!

headshot   Welcome!!!!

Welcome to my new website - Mr G's Korner. I am a music instructor in the Homeschool Community in the Metro Atlanta area. The Homeschool movement is evolving at a rapid rate and, in Atlanta at least, has transformed into somewhat of a multi-campus private school environment. Parents are still teaching their children, but for one day a week, many homeschool students travel to a campus to receive supplementary specialized instruction in the fine arts i.e. Music, Dance, Drama and Art. For many parents, it's not JUST the instruction in the arts that they are interested in, but the Christian worldview that is also communicated at these homeschool academies.

These homeschool academies offer not only opportunities for the student to receive quality instruction in the fine arts, but they also offer opportunity for the fine arts professionals in those disciplines to teach in a Christian environment. Professional artists, musicians, dancers and actors all have a chance to give back to the community by teaching in these academies. Retired teachers and parents with degrees who are getting back into teaching after years spent in raising their own children have an opportunity as well to teach in an environment they used to only dream about.

This website is dedicated to the music world of the academies I personally work at. I will be posting articles that I am writing in support of the work I am doing in these academies. I will also post information about each of these academies as well as any articles other music instructors at these academies may write. There will be links to these organizations and to any music teacher's websites that may want to be mentioned here.

I hope I have time for all of this..... but I have been dreaming about this for a long time. So let's kick it into gear.

The menu at the top of this page should be self-explanatory, but here are some basic helps....

Instructor Bios....

This page will contain any music teachers biographies that I can snag along with any links to any of their web pages.

Instrumental and Vocal...

This page will contain lessons, articles and tips for guitar, electric bass and vocals submitted by our instructors. Other instruments can be added should the need arise.

Academies...

This page will contain links to the various Academies I am associated with. There won't be much info beyond the link provided, as they do such a fine job on their own websites that I simply do not need to re-invent the wheel.

Music Theory...

This oughtta be self-explanatory. I am a Music Theory geek, and it fascinates me. There will be articles from our instructors listed on this site on all facets of music theory - from why we need it and how to study it to important tips and tricks to help you learn what you need to get that grade you want!

Composers...

Gosh! Guess what this page will be about? Along with being a music theory geek, I am also enthralled with knowing the composers themselves. Why? It connects me with their music. Without spilling the beans on a upcoming article, I can tell you that when you understand the story behind Handel and his writing of the Messiah, you will be totally enthralled the next time you hear that music performed.

Music History...

Kind of goes hand in hand with the composers page. The difference here is the emphasis will be on the historical period those composers lived in, whereas the Composers page will concentrate on the person as they walked within that historical period. I imagine there will be some overlap.

So - welcome once again to Mr G's Korner. Hang with me and let's see how this site develops. I am open to any and all suggestions. They may or may not be implemented, but that is the joy of having your own website. God's blessings to each of you.
